Hotels & Attractions

Enjoy your visit to Des Moines! Take a break and explore the many cultural attractions, diverse restaurants and unique shopping areas throughout the metro area!

Our Historic East Village Neighborhood
The State Historical Building, home of the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Caucus, is located in the newly renovated East Village, noted as one of Des Moines' hippest neighborhoods! Trendy galleries, gift shops and unique restaurants are yours to explore around the terraces of the State Historic Building, located just one block away from the golden-domed State Capitol. Our building is also home to the State Historical Museum, where various exhibits are on display and the Museum Store, which offers unique gifts. Historians can enjoy research activities in our library and archives reading room and discover family roots across the street at the Iowa Genealogical Society.

Other Area Attractions
In addition to shopping and dining, take in a play, visit an art or history museum, discover the local zoo, botanical and sciences centers, or explore the vibrant night scene. No matter what your interest, there are all kinds of things happening on the weekend of the Cultural Caucus…a live jazz jam, an art expo, a pet expo, even an extreme outdoor adventurer's forum!
