Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs: CHAT (Culture History Arts Teams)

Welcome to CHAT - Culture, History, Art Teams

CHAT is a networking opportunity for Iowa citizens that work to promote cultural life in the state and is provided by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Paramount to this effort are avenues of inter-connection, collaborative resource sharing, links to cultural events information, and a reporting tool that will help document cultural activities and generate more data about the economic impact they have on the state.

CHAT's mission is "to empower the people of Iowa to create a solid infrastructure of cultural advocates committed to improving the quality of life through an expanded awareness of culture, history and the arts."

CHAT Objectives include:

To create 13 strong and active CHAT regions that have a solid communication network. Click on the map above for contact information and resources for each region.
To develop baseline data of the number of cultural activities that Iowans participate in to aid in stimulating the state’s economy.
To communicate with the Department of Cultural Affairs on a monthly basis.
To synthesize new approaches to bringing a greater quality of cultural life to all Iowans.

The CHAT Reporting Tool has been set up for easy and swift reporting of cultural events that have occured in your area. Each report goes into a central database that will yield valuable benchmarks and analysis.
