Grant Request & Match Requirement
Definitions
Cash Match:
The cash donations(including items or services) that are provided by the applicant
or sponsor organization.
In-Kind Match:
These are goods and services (not cash) that are donated by individuals or organizations
other than the applicant. The dollar amount should be calculated at their verifiable
fair-market value.
Total Match:
The total of the Cash Match and In-kind Match.
Requirements
Applicants may request up to $25,000, but no more than 50 percent of the total expenses of the project.
All applicants must match the amount requested. Both cash (includes salaries of applicant staff identified in the application narrative) and in-kind donations may constitute the match.
Funds from other Iowa Arts Council, Department of Cultural Affairs or State Historical Society of Iowa grant programs or funds used to match other Iowa Arts Council grants are not allowable as a match. Non-funded activities or expenses are not allowable expense items.
- Cash match refers to the actual cash provided by the applicant or donors listed in the "cash income" section of the budget. If the applicant also provides items or services, those may also be counted as part of the cash match. The cash match must be at least 50 percent of the total match. The applicant's administrative and artistic salaries (only the percentage used for this project) can constitute up to 50 percent of the total match.
- Up to 50 percent of the total match can be in-kind donations of goods and services that others (not the applicant) have contributed to the project. Applicants must calculate the dollar amount of in-kind donations at fair-market value.
Example: If the total project cost is $10,000 the applicant may request up to $5,000. The cash match must be at least $2,500. The in-kind donations may be no more than $2,500.
Does Your Match Qualify?
1) Your total match must be at least 50 percent of the total cost of your project. To determine if you meet this criteria, use the following formula:
(Cash Match + In-kind Match) ÷ Project Cost x 100
2) In addition, your Cash Match must be at least 50 percent of the total match. To determine if your Cash Match qualifies, follow the formula below:
Cash Match ÷ (In-kind Match + Cash Match) x 100
