Iowa Community Cultural Grants application deadline February 1
For Immediate Release December 15, 2005
(Des Moines, Iowa) – A festival in Dubuque that celebrates the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birthday, an exhibit in Cedar Rapids that improved awareness of the African-American culture in Iowa, and a county historical society that built a new facility in Red Oak are just a few of the successful projects supported this year by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs’ Iowa Community Cultural Grant program.
Communities and organizations across Iowa are encouraged to apply for FY2006-2007 Iowa Community Cultural Grants. Applications will be accepted through February 1, 2006 at 4:30 p.m. at the State Historical Building, 600 E. Locust, Des Moines, Iowa, 50319. This is not a postmark deadline.
“Projects can include new museum or county conservation board exhibits, historic restoration and archaeology projects, arts festivals, or ethnic heritage projects,” ICCG Coordinator Riki Saltzman said. “Applicants should focus on how this money will be used for salary support for positions like administrative staff, curators or exhibit designers, which in turn enhances Iowa’s artistic, cultural and historical resources.”
Other examples of previously funded projects include performing arts events, docent training, folklife and other festivals, public art projects, and ethnic heritage projects that enhance Iowa’s cultural climate while providing employment for Iowans.
Nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations that promote and develop the arts, history or historic preservation, culture, ethnicity, tourism, economic development, festival or municipal libraries are eligible to apply. City and county governments, and tribal councils are also eligible.
Cash-match awards range from $1,000 to $25,000. Applications are available at www.culturalaffairs.org. For more information, contact Riki Saltzman at 515.242.6195 or at Riki.Saltzman@iowa.gov.
