State Historical Boards and Iowa Arts Council visit Davenport for meetings, tours and events

(DES MOINES, Iowa) – Board members and staff from the State Historical Society of Iowa, Iowa Historical Foundation and Iowa Arts Council will gather in Davenport this week for meetings, tours and community events.
The historical boards will meet Wednesday and Thursday at the German American Heritage Center before joining the arts council board to tour the Figge Art Museum and attend a reception at the River Music Experience. The arts council board will meet Friday at the Figge.
SHSI will hold its board meeting 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the German American Heritage Center on Thursday. The Iowa Arts Council will hold its board meeting at 8:30 a.m. at the Figge Art Museum on Friday. Both meetings are free and open to the public.
The Iowa Historical Foundation, a private, non-profit organization that serves SHSI through fundraising, membership and other events, will meet 2-5 p.m. at theGerman American Heritage Center on Wednesday.
The State Historical Society of Iowa is a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and serves as a trustee of Iowa’s historical legacy and as an advocate for understanding Iowa’s past.
Its dual mission of preservation and education involves identifying, recording, collecting, preserving, managing and providing access to Iowa’s historical resources.
As an advocate of understanding Iowa’s past, SHSI educates Iowans of all ages, conducts and stimulates research, disseminates information, and encourages and supports historical preservation and education efforts of others throughout the state.
