Iowa Community Cultural Grant applications due Feb. 1

(DES MOINES, Iowa) – Communities and organizations across Iowa applying for fiscal year 2009 (July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009) Iowa Community Cultural Grants must have their applications in the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs administrative office by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 1, 2008. DCA is at 600 E. Locust Street, Third Floor West, Des Moines, Iowa 50319.
New guidelines and application forms for this grant program are posted on the DCA Web site, www.culturalaffairs.org. All applications submitted for the Feb. 1, 2008 deadline must use the new forms and guidelines.
The ICCG program provides matching grants to support organizations and projects that provide employment for Iowans while enhancing Iowa’s artistic, cultural and historical resources. Projects include but are not limited to museum exhibits, historic restoration and archaeology projects; folklife and other festivals; public art or ethnic heritage projects; and performing arts events and companies.
Local governments and their subsidiaries, tribal councils, and nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations are eligible for cash-match awards that range from $1,000 to $25,000 to fund salary support for new or enhanced positions. Applications are available at www.culturalaffairs.org.

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs is responsible for developing the state’s interest in the areas of the arts, history and other cultural matters with the advice and assistance from its two divisions: the State Historical Society of Iowa and the Iowa Arts Council. The DCA preserves, researches, interprets and promotes an awareness and understanding of local, state and regional history and stimulates and encourages the study and presentation of the performing and fine arts and public interest and participation in them. It implements tourism-related art and history projects as directed by the general assembly and designs a comprehensive, statewide, long-range plan with the assistance of the Iowa Arts Council to develop the arts in Iowa.
