Cultural Advocacy Day’s “Cabaret Iowa” Feb. 18 in Des Moines

(DES MOINES, Iowa) – The Iowa Cultural Coalition is seeking entertainers, performers, bands and musicians from across the state for a showcase in February at Cultural Advocacy Day in Des Moines.

The showcase, “Cabaret Iowa,” will be 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at the State Historical Building, 600 E. Locust Street in Des Moines. The showcase is part of ICC’s Cultural Advocacy Day legislative reception, which brings together Iowa’s cultural leaders, workers and supporters to visit with Iowa legislators about issues impacting the state’s creative economy.

Iowans interested in performing at the showcase should contact Zachary Mannheimer at artdir@subjectivetheatre.org or 515-333-3994. Mannheimer is executive director of the Subjective Theatre Company and the Des Moines Social Club.

“We are looking for 13 different acts from across the state to perform at Cabaret Iowa,” Mannheimer said. “I urge performance artists, musicians, bands, poets and others to give us a call. We will be talking to our legislators about cultural issues and the creative economy, and we need your help, skills and expertise to reinforce the fact that our industry creates jobs while improving the quality of life for Iowans and others who visit our communities.”
