Cultural Caucus delegates to be elected Saturday in Clear Lake

(DES MOINES, Iowa) – Cultural leaders, workers and their supporters from 10 northern Iowa counties will gather Saturday in Clear Lake for a regional CHAT meeting and to elect delegates to next week’s Cultural Caucus in Des Moines.
The CHAT Region 2 meeting will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at the Clear Lake Public Library, 200 North Fourth Street in Clear Lake.
CHAT – Culture, History, Arts Teams – is an Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs networking program and reporting tool that helps cultural organizations document their activities and generate more data about their economic impact on the state. CHAT includes 13 different regions. Cerro Gordo, Emmet, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Winnebago, Worth and Wright counties are included in CHAT Region 2.
During the meeting, participants will elect delegates to the Cultural Caucus, which will be 1-4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at the Wallace Building, 502 E. 9th Street in Des Moines.
At the Cultural Caucus, held every four years, delegates will review and assess the state’s current cultural landscape and collaborate with DCA to formulate a plan to move culture, history and arts in Iowa forward.
“Now, more than ever, we need Iowa’s cultural leaders, workers and supporters to attend their regional CHAT meetings,” DCA Director Cyndi Pederson said. “Their ideas and visions will help us develop a strategic statewide plan that will take our creative economy into the next decade.”
Iowa’s 13 CHAT regions are comprised as follows:
Region 1: Lyon, Osceola, Dickinson, Sioux, O’Brien, Clay, Plymouth, Cherokee, Buena Vista
Region 2: Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, Palo Alto, Hancock, Cerro Gordo, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Wright
Region 3: Mitchell, Howard, Winneshiek, Allamakee, Floyd, Chickasaw, Fayette, Clayton
Region 4: Woodbury, Ida, Sac, Monona, Crawford, Carroll, Harrison, Shelby, Audubon

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs is responsible for developing the state’s interest in the areas of the arts, history and other cultural matters with the advice and assistance from its two divisions: the State Historical Society of Iowa and the Iowa Arts Council.
