DCA announces Iowa Cultural Trust Stability Grant recipients
Program supports Iowa’s non-profit cultural, arts and history organizations
For Immediate Release March 5, 2010
(DES MOINES, Iowa) – The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs today announced 14 Iowa Cultural Trust Stability Grants totaling $33,621 to support non-profit cultural, arts and history organizations across the state.
The grants are funded through the Iowa Cultural Trust, created by the Iowa Legislature in 2002. The legislation calls for up to $1 million to be appropriated to the Cultural Trust annually through 2015 via the Iowa Values Fund. Grants are distributed from interest earned on principal.
“Iowa’s non-profit cultural organizations create jobs and generate millions of dollars in economic activity across Iowa, but they often struggle to raise enough funds to cover their operating expenses,” Governor Chet Culver said. “These Iowa Cultural Trust Stability Grants, while relatively small in dollar figures, will play a significant role in supporting the long-term financial stability of these organizations.”
Applicants may request up to $2,500, but no more than 50 percent of the total cost, for projects that will measurably improve their ability to be financially stable and sustainable. All requests must show a dollar-for-dollar cash match. Each organization is limited to receiving one Stability Grant per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).
