The Caucus Iowa exhibit is:
- An in-depth look at Iowa’s first-in-the-nation
political caucuses in a new 10,000 square foot exhibition
celebrating Iowa’s unique brand of citizen-democracy.
A look at the history, four major video presentations,
and a public forum space. Visitors also meet
the cast of characters that make up the caucuses:
from candidates to staff to volunteers to media to
activists to voters. They populate the exhibit
and reinforce the story of one-on-one campaigning.
- The visitor will experience the retail politics
of the Iowa caucuses in a typical coffee shop…looking
at it from the viewpoint of the citizen, the candidate
and the media.
- They will step into a living room and a gymnasium
to learn exactly how these grassroots caucuses work—for
both Republicans and Democrats. And the visitor will
get an impression of the experience of caucus night.
- We will examine the media and how, since 1972, these
neighborhood meetings have garnered worldwide attention
and the media’s impact on the process.
- The exhibit finishes with “Three Tickets Out,”
the chronology of the nine caucuses highlighting an
interesting story of that particular year and the
expectations game that is played every four years.
- Visitors will be asked to vote on issues of the
day at strategically placed touch-screens throughout
the exhibit.
- There is also a public forum space, open to all
political groups and home to special programming throughout
the 2007/2008 political season.
