Neighborhood: Memories of the Center Street Community
This
display features materials from Robert E. Patten, who
operated a Des Moines printing business serving the
African-American community from the 1920s through the
1960s. The business cards, restaurant menus, posters of
community and church events, social clubs, and calendars
give a unique insight into African- American life in
Iowa.

Over Iowa: Look up!
Three
historic aircraft "fly" in the museum's
atrium. Learn the stories of a 1910 Curtiss-Klein
pusher, a model XI Bleriot monoplane, a modified Benoist
Tractor biplane and the people who flew them.
Where's
Floppy?
For
thirty years Duane Ellett and his puppets entertained
children on his local television program. Visitors can
see his puppets and get a glimpse on a TV interview.
Crystal
Treasures from Iowa’s Quarries and Mines
This small
exhibit highlights some of the beautiful crystal
formations found in Iowa coalmine dumps and quarry waste
piles.

This
display shows a variety of minerals found in the State
Rock of Iowa.
