Through the Arts theater programs are open to both school groups and the public!
Though most events scheduled during the day are reserved for school groups, the
general public is invited to attend events and activities held in the evening
unless otherwise stated below. Scholarships for transportation and admission are available to all schools.Schools may qualify to receive funding for attending
arts-related events through the Iowa
Arts Council's Big Yellow School Bus grant.
Teachers: Bring your students to our 2008-2009 season of History Through The Arts and let them learn through theater, interactive workshops and guided museum tours. All performances
are held in the State Historical Building unless otherwise noted.
Tuition: $4/seat. Performances include interactive, curricular-based
workshops. Groups arrive at 9:45 a.m. and depart at 1:30 p.m.

October 20-22: Let’s Celebrate Archaeology!
Grades 5-6 and grades 7-9 explore archaeology in ancient times.
November 10-14: “The Heroine of the Bridge”
Grades 3-6. Students learn the true story of Kate Shelly.
January 12 & 13: Ice Age Follies
Grades 2-5. Students explore the life of the mammoth and more.
January 26-30: Premier of “A Dream Fulfilled” Opera
The story of George Washington Carver. In partnership with the
Des Moines Metro Opera.
February 16-18: Storytelling Festival
Feb. 16: grades 4-6; Feb. 17: grades 7-9; Feb. 18: grades 9-12.
March 23-27: “Inalienable Rights”
Grades 5-12. Three landmark civil rights cases in Iowa.
April 6-12: “A Dream Fulfilled” Opera
In partnership with the Des Moines Metro Opera.
